Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 16, 1920 at Howard University in Washington D.C. The founders, who we refer to as “The Five Pearls” are Arizona Cleaver Stemons, Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings, and Fannie Pettie Watts. They envisioned a sorority that would positively change the world. The work of the sisterhood is guided by their vision and the sorority’s four principles: Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood.

The Upsilon Eta Zeta Chapter (YHZ) of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on Friday, March 11, 2005 by Andrea Cousins, Desiree Jackson-McCray, Raven Johnson, Leah Taylor, and Seneca Weatherspoon. The chapter then went dormant in 2010. In the spring of 2014, 10th PA State Director, Barbara Cousar, envisioned a commonwealth with all PA chapters active and asked that Lambda Lambda Zeta Chapter of the City of Pittsburgh take on the charge. On October 24, 2014, Upsilon Eta Zeta Chapter was reactivated by Marquita Brown, Katie George, Dr. Raina J. Jackson, Dr. Ketwana Schoos, and Ronniqua Willie.
YHZ proudly serves Braddock, California, Canonsburg, Clairton, Duquesne, Homestead, McKeesport, Munhall, Rankin, Washington, and West Mifflin communities of Southwestern Pennsylvania. With the communities we serve we are affectionately known as the Mon Valley Zetas.
